Born: 4 January 1983.

 

Education:

Graduated from the Law School of the University of Iceland in 2008.

Studied at Uppsala University in Sweden in 2007.

 

Admission to the Bar:

Hildur was admitted to the Icelandic Bar as a District Court Attorney in 2008 and as a Supreme Court Attorney in 2017.

 

Career:

Attorney at Landslog since 2008.

Adjunct at the Law Faculty of the University of Iceland since 2019.

 

Other activities:

Chairman of the Appellate Committee for Sailors and Fishing Companies since 2020.

Chairman of the Complaints board for Goods and Services since 2020.

Law Committee of the Icelandic Bar Association 2014-2017.

Editorial board for Afmælisrit Viðars Más Matthíassonar, published in 2014.

 

Teaching and research:

Hildur has been a lecturer at the Law Faculty of the University of Iceland since 2010 and as an adjunct since 2019. She gives lectures in Insurance Law, Real Estate Law and Commercial Law.

Hildur holds lectures every year in the Bar Association and other associations and companies.

She has written several legal articles for law reviews.

Tort and insurance law, financial law, real estate law, contract law and dispute resolution.

 

Various achievements:

  • Hildur was one of the attorneys in claims made against U.K. Insurers under D&O policies purchased by Landsbanki Íslands hf. The ongoing disputes are landmark cases with regard to D&O insurance practice in Iceland and among the largest and most complex in Icelandic civil procedure. The trial at the District Court level, which took over five weeks, the longest in Icelandic civil procedure history, was concluded at the beginning of December 2018 with satisfactory results for Insurers. Appeals are pending.
  • Hildur was one of the youngest women to become Supreme Court Attorney is Iceland.
  • Hildur represented around 100 real estate owners in an apartment building in Hafnarfjordur in a case which the owners brought against the seller of the apartments. The case is among the most extensive real estate cases before for the Icelandic courts.
  • Hildur represents Alma leigufélag in a case against 3 insurance companies, an architect and a contractor due to various flaws in a 50 apartment buildings in Reykjavik.
  • Hildur represents a housing association and around 60 real estate owners due to various flaws in an apartment building in Kopavogur.
